Help IHS Marching Band Replace Stolen Gear
Tax deductible
On August 17th, 2020, we received an unexpected phone call from the Fremont Police Department: they found our one and only marching band trailer sitting in an industrial complex beside a highway. Our blue and white marching uniforms, color guard equipment, and other supplies—all normally stored inside the trailer—were missing, stolen by someone who had towed our trailer away from our high school overnight. What’s left of the trailer includes a broken towing joint, punctured wall panels, and scuffed corners. Replacement uniforms are estimated to cost $500 each, our colorguard equipment losses are in the thousands, and a replacement trailer may be needed if we can not repair our recovered one. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled our usual fall season, we held hope for competing in the spring. But now, with uniforms missing and trailer damaged, our marching band and guard may not see the light of day anytime soon. We’re reaching out to our community in hopes that we can recover some of our losses.
The Irvington Viking Marching Band and Guard is primarily funded through student and parent donations, with minimal financial support from our school. Despite this, our program remains one of the best in Northern California, regularly winning top awards and sweepstakes in competition. But our limited funding means we continue to use old equipment and uniforms across seasons. We are rarely able to replace equipment, much less large amounts of it on short notice.
Regardless of whether you’re affiliated with us, from the city, or just a kind stranger who happened to see our post, we hope you can be a part of getting us back on our feet—marching, playing, and spreading the joy of music. Whether you donate, share our story, or both, you can keep our decades-long tradition on the street and field alive. And when you do, the next time you hear our Viking Marching Band and Guard rolling down the street, you can smile knowing you helped make that possible. We’ll be forever thankful.
If you've never watched us before, here's a video of us in competition last year:
