Help in battle of BPDCN cancer
Donation protected
This is Melissa Erazo, she is 29yrs old and found out on 1/2023 she has a very rare and aggressive cancer that's seen in only 0.04% of the population in USA and Europe combined. It's mostly seen in males over 60 and it's so rare there isn't an established treatment plan. A person in oncology can go their entire career and never see this type of cancer.
Thank God, she was admitted to a clinical trial at City of Hope where a drug that has not been approved by the FDA but has shown good results in a previous trial with BPDCN called SL-401 is used with Azacitidine intravenously and Venetoclax orally.
After 3 cycles of this treatment, they will do a stem cell transplant, which her sister Michelle was a match for. There will be lots of hospital visits, and long days in testing which will lead to her being hospitalized for 1 month due to her being immune compromised. It's an aggressive treatment for an aggressive illness.
It has truly been a whirlwind for Meli, through it all she trusts that God will give her strength and make a way for healing. She has an amazing medical team and has been touched by so many strangers coming alongside to take a moment to pray for her and visit. This experience has changed her life forever but is so thankful for the humanity she has experienced through the process. If you know Meli you know she has a heart of gold. She has a child's way of looking at life even though she has battled so many monsters in her short life, mental health and many illnesses, but by the grace of God she is here looking ahead with hope and a thankful heart. Pain comes, and the side effects of the 3 chemos take a toll in her body. There are days she is not able to walk very far on her own but she will still have a smile on her beautiful face. In her hospital bed, there's always a special blanket to give her comfort, a new blanket because she doesn't trust herself to not lose a relic she normally sleeps with at home; her baby pillow. Yes a little pillow she has had since she was a baby.... All 29yrs!!!! Her favorite things are anything snoopy, spider-man, books, anime, youtube (she's always learning something) crime shows.
During this time Melissa lost all income, before this she had gotten a promotion to full-time and a bigger role in the company she was with. Her Dr. appointment where she was told the news was the week after her promotion. She didn't get to work in her new position before having to go on family leave. There have been many things that have contributed to no income for her from any source, too many to delve into.
We hope that you can help her during this time of great need. She needs special foods when she's neutropenic from treatments, as well as special things to alleviate some side effects that can be costly. She needs other supplies to keep a sterile environment at home. The copays for her medicine and gas for driving to all Dr's appointments sometimes 3x a week have depleted her savings. The responsibilities she had before this are still there on the monthly basis. She lives with her parents and sister which is a blessing but it has caused a bigger strain on the family financially.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and your support. If you're not able to give monetarily please join us in prayer for her complete healing of this cancer and if you can share this link in your socials and your contacts, that would help Meli immensely.
