Help India Breathe and Fight Covid Wave-2
The Cause: The recent surge of Covid cases in India has crossed all benchmarks, peaking at 400 thousand new cases reported daily. Given the high density of population every other individual of the 1.3 Billion population is getting affected by the deadliest variant of corona virus in this second wave. This mutated version of the virus is directly affecting the lungs, impeding a person’s ability to breathe kids, adults and the elderly alike.
Such high numbers have collapsed the already struggling medical system of the country. There’s no beds in hospitals and extreme shortage of life saving drugs, basic equipment like Oximeters and most importantly oxygen support devices like Oxygen Cylinders, Oxygen Concentrators etc. that can help the one fighting the virus to breathe and have a chance at beating the virus. Death tolls are staggering and highly underreported. The deceased aren’t even able to find space in the cremation grounds.
Our goal is to avail to people these basic equipment, breathing aids etc. and try to save as many lives as we can.
What we are doing?
We are working with Sihora Welfare Foundation a local small non-profit based in central India (Sihora, Jabalpur M.P.) who are working to deliver masks, sanitation kits, basic equipment like thermometer, oximeter, Oxygen Cylinders, Oxygen Concentrators etc. directly to the people in need and to the Hospital. This suburban area with a population of roughly 50,000 has only one government hospital with 20 beds. We are working to support equip the hospital with Oxygen Supply lines and necessary equipment.
Work with other NGOs and support groups to make medicine kits available.
Create a pool of breathing aid devices that can be circulated between affected patients to help them recover and then make it available for the next.
Source high flow Oxygen concentrators directly from suppliers.
Create campaigns and share videos and documents to raise awareness.
Running programs to facilitate people to stay at home and minimize exposure.
Supporting the poor families in emergency to cover medicine, hospitalization and ambulance costs.
Goals:
Arrange for oxygen concentrators and other necessary medical equipment in small cities and town hospitals. Save as many lives as we can, who can easily beat the virus and have a chance at life if they get the basic support and breathing aids in time.
Raise awareness in the community so that people understand the gravity of the situation. Promote social distancing and steering out the community out of these dire times.
Why are we doing this?
We come from these small towns and cities. We have family and friends there. We are deeply affected and moved by the grim situation.
Charity becomes at home and we could not just sit and watch. We had to do something and so we are working around the clock to make any difference we can.
