Help Fund Indie's Spinal Cord Surgery

Indie, my 3 year old Yorkie-Poo, loves all classic "dog-things". She always stops to bite sticks on our walks, jumps into my laundry bin to find the dirtiest items to steal, and acts as my fly swatter trying to catch bugs.

On 9/18/2023, Indie started behaving strangely. She lost her appetite, had a runny nose, did not balance well, and a few times per day would squeal in pain. Our primary veterinarian shot some x-rays of Indie's back, thinking she may have a slipped disc, but thought it necessary to consult with a Neurologist. I brought her to an animal hospital the next day, where Dr. Webb took an MRI of Indie and diagnosed her with AA Luxation.

AA Luxation means that Indie's first and second neck bones are not in proper alignment and causes the spinal cord to become pinched which was the cause of her squealing. This condition occurs most often in smaller dog breeds. The theory is Indie's upper neck was weak since birth, and overtime some jump or movement caused her bones to misalign.

Indie left the hospital with a neck brace to limit any movement and prevent further damage. With a brace and some medications, Indie has a 60% chance of survival. Any sudden movement of the neck could cause sudden death. Knowing I have to do everything I can to increase these chances, I'm working to gather funds so Indie can have a surgery asap. The surgery will cost ~$8,608.43. The post-surgery care is intensive, taking several weeks; however, this option gives her a 60-90% chance of survival.

Though the road to recovery seems long right now, I have no doubt Indie is strong enough to resume our daily walks (with stick-stops of course), hop into my laundry bin, and catch all the flies she can.
