Help Indigenous Artisan with their Art business
Donation protected
I am Abenaki Wliwini. I am a two spirited first Nations Abenaki from the cowasuck band of the pennacook abenaki people. I began an Artisan page Indigenous and Nordoceltic Revelations. It was done by mere happenstance. My artwork and desire to create artwork were reignited after the 215 unmarked graves were recovered. I hadn't drawn for over 30 years. I was crippled emotionally and spiritually because of the trauma I had experienced both as a child and an adult. My childhood was spent in the system. I spent time in various foster homes, group homes, and schools. So I have been drawing and painting ever since. People noticed my designs and wanted me to design t-shirts. Which I did. Partial proceeds were donated to the orange shirt society, the Native Women's Association, and the Cedar tea project.
At the end of October, my benefits with EI will be ending, and unfortunately, CRB is ending at the same time, which will force me to apply for OW. Ontario Works entitlement for an adult is only 720 dollars, leaving nothing left to purchase supplies in which to continue with the business. I want the business to take off so that I am not beholden to OW. My doctor is on board with helping me get on ODSP.
Doing Art has been helping me heal. I have complex PTSD and it helps with my anxiety.
