Help Into Games create a low-income bursary for 2025
Donation protected
Into Games has worked non-stop for the last six years to create a more inclusive UK games sector pipeline. Our work has connected thousands of people to powerful career conversations with sector professionals, helped build strong discipline-specific skill sets and, most importantly, got over 300 people hired.
Our focus for 2025 and beyond is to ensure that those from working-class and low-income backgrounds are properly represented in UK game studios.
While 37% of the UK population are from working-class backgrounds, only 13% are represented in the UK games sector. This is lower than creative industries like music and film, but additionally, it is below sectors like law, engineering, and the sciences. Games is one of the worst overall performers in socioeconomic diversity of any sector, which is a big problem.
Our seminal report, Difficulty Level, was released in October 2024 and mapped out key recommendations for how we can help solve this challenge. It examined the barriers and challenges facing low-income people when entering the games sector.
For us, the work has already begun, in 2024, we gave away over £30,000 in training, travel and event tickets to those career seekers in financial distress. In 2025, we want to do much more.
One of our key recommendations from our research was the need to set up a national bursary pot to provide regular financial support to the most talented career seekers from working-class backgrounds and low-income backgrounds.
We aim for this campaign to help support at least 20 people in 2025 for 12 months of deep career guidance, mentorship, free equipment and access to paid work experience.
Even small donation amounts make a big difference:
- £20 could help pay for the travel of someone to a conference or networking event
- £60 could pay for accommodation for a night at a conference or networking event
- £199 could pay for 3 weeks of additional masters level discipline-specific training to boost skills and contacts
- £500 could go towards equipment and software
- £1000 could provide an entire year's worth of ongoing support and paid work experience
Small or large, every donation helps.
Thank you!
