Help Isa Seek Asylum in Spain

Donation protected
I recently met two women who fled the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.  They came to Miami where Isa, the younger of the two, hoped to have access to insulin and medical care for her Type 1 Diabetes and related kidney condition.  A charitable organization that I regularly support, T1International, connected me with them knowing I live in Miami and hoping that I could help them with diabetes supplies.  I was able to give them insulin and other supplies; but upon meeting them, I learned that they had lost everything to the corrupt regime and the economic and political crisis that has stripped the Venezuelan people of human rights and robbed them of access to food, healthcare and medication.  They came to Miami with tourist visas and nothing else, as their government confiscates any medication, money, or items of value attempted to be taken in or out of the country.  They cannot go back to Venezuela as Isa would face certain death without insulin or medical care.

Since arriving in Miami, they have been trying to make money cleaning houses and Isa has been relying on charitable donations for insulin and other diabetes supplies.  They have explored many options in hopes of gaining asylum in the U.S., but it has become obvious that any attempts would be expensive and very risky in the current U.S. immigration climate.  Work opportunities have been few and their daily lives have become very precarious.  They have determined that seeking asylum in Spain is a better option.  The process is significantly less expensive than here and it does not carry the risk of deportation.  In addition, Isa can access free insulin and healthcare without citizenship.  A friend in Barcelona has already connected them with an immigration attorney.

Now they need to raise the funds to get to Spain and gain asylum.  Both women are humble, polite, respectful and incredibly appreciative of everything given to them.  They are embarrassed to ask for help, but their lives now depend on the generosity of others.  In Isa’s own words:  “We are trying to raise funds and I wanted to know if you please know people who can collaborate with us with what they can, even if it is a little bit. I would really appreciate it in my soul. Please forgive me if I may be so bold, I wouldn't ask you for this if I was not so desperate, I have no one to ask for help.”

Please join me in helping the women gain asylum in Spain by donating and sharing this GoFundMe campaign.  I will withdrawal the funds prior to their departure to Spain and meet Isa to give her the full amount collected in cash. I will also give her additional diabetes supplies I am collecting at that time.   All funds will be used by Isa to pay expenses necessary for their transition to a life in Spain.  This includes attorney fees and filing fees for immigration services, initial living expenses such as a housing deposit and first month rent, medical expenses and supplies, and other necessary items as a they search for jobs and begin their new life in Spain.
