Isabella is a sweet, smart, and feisty three year old who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October 2018. Isabella and her parents, Jeser and Alejandra, are from Querétaro, Mexico.
Isabella’s family came to Louisville, Kentucky in the fall of 2017 for her father to work on a long term project at General Electric’s Appliance Park. They anticipated being in Louisville for several years. Isabella was enrolled in my class at St. Paul’s Preschool and quickly became a good friend to her classmates, and she and her family became treasured members of our preschool community. Her father was a well-respected employee at General Electric as well as at their Mexican counterpart, Mabe.
Isabella began the 2018-19 year with us at St. Paul’s. Her family planned a visit home to Querétaro for several weeks to visit family, with intentions to return to Louisville at the end of October. While in Mexico, Isabella fell seriously ill. Many tests later, the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia was returned. Isabella and her parents had no choice but to stay in Mexico and seek immediate treatment.
Our Preschool community is devastated by this diagnosis, but we have faith that Isabella is strong and determined enough to fight this monster. She has already finished the first phase of her treatment, a month of inpatient chemotherapy. Isabella is being reassessed in December and then the next course of action will be determined.
We are trying to raise funds for this family. There has been missed work, along with travel expenses and other unexpected costs. Her continued treatment will undoubtedly accrue large medical bills, and our hope is to alleviate some of the financial burden that this family will certainly have to bear. Isabella is receiving her treatment at the Teleton Infant Oncology Clinic in Querétaro, Mexico.
