Help Isla Cook Recover In The Burn Unit

Donation protected

Dear Friends and Family,

Our sweet Isla Clare Cook, was injured in a tragic accident during a family gathering, when a leaking propane tank caught on fire. Isla ended up receiving the brunt of the ten foot flames. Isla has second and third degree burns covering 46% of her body.

She was rushed to the hospital and then transferred to a Burn Unit Hospital in Phoenix Arizona. As they clean and re-bandage her burns, over and over again, they continue to get a clearer picture of her condition. It won’t be until her surgery that they know how long her recovery will take. If they have everything they need, best case scenario is she can be transferred to a Primary Children’s Hospital in a month. Worst case scenario is that Isla will need skin grafts from cadavers and could be in this burn unit for many months. This is a very excruciating beginning of what will be a painfully long process.

Isla is the oldest of five kids. She is a huge help to her momma; especially with her one year old twin siblings. She is always thinking of others and is often finding ways to do acts of service for her family and friends. She is so much fun and has a bold, playful personality. She loves to bake all kinds of yummy treats and loves to sing and play the piano. The thing she loves the very most is gymnastics. At almost any given moment, Isla is twisting, bending, or flipping. She dedicates several hours a day to gymnastics and recently became an Optional level 6. She is basically a rockstar.

We have no idea what the cost of her care will be, but we have been told by others who have been in similar situations that it likely will be astronomical. The wrapping and re-bandaging they have been doing for the last day and a half costs $8k-$10k each time. We are in uncharted territory.

We are setting a pretty high goal amount to be raised, but that number will likely still fall short of the cost for Isla’s care. Even so, we are so grateful for anything you can donate. No amount is too small. We are all just so grateful for those of you who have reached out with a desire to help, and to give love and support to Isla and her family.

The Cook family will also need help with watching the kids, meals, and probably some miscellaneous tasks. We are working on a way for people to sign up to help, and will post that information soon.

Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for Isla.
