COVID-19: Help Isolated Nursing Home Residents
Tax deductible
COVID-19 has targeted our loved ones living in nursing homes and other senior care facilities. In an unprecedented act, federal officials have now shut down all visitation to these facilities for the foreseeable future. In addition, group activities and communal dining have been ordered to cease immediately to prevent community spread of the virus among residents, staff, and their families.
It was the right call.
But instruction was also given to nursing homes that operators should find ways to help families stay in touch with their loved ones, as best as possible, through teleconferencing or other means.
Families who are used to seeing each other everyday should be able to do so, and we believe we’ve found a great way to make that happen.
Smart displays, such as the Amazon Echo Show, can easily be placed on a resident’s bedside table and positioned in such a manner as to protect the privacy rights of others. They allow easy, visible, two-way communication without the risk of introducing the coronavirus contagion into any facility. This keeps residents safe. Smart displays will offer comfort to scared families cut off from each other while uplifting the spirits of residents experiencing isolation and boredom.
We believe these devices are needed now.
We want to help as many residents receive one as soon as possible, but we need your help to make that happen.
Families for Better Care has created this GoFundMe account to quickly raise $50,000 to purchase and send smart display devices to residents who need them.
Devices range from about $70 to $100 and there are more than 1.5 million residents living in nursing homes alone. We’re starting with residents who don’t have the means to purchase a device and then will help others as we collect more funds. One hundred percent of your donation will be used in purchasing and sending a smart display to a needy nursing home resident.
Thank you for helping isolated nursing home residents stay connected with their families.
