Help Izzy go to the European and World Cadet Championships

I have had a great journey in fencing, starting as a 4 year old, fencing for fun and the social side of making friends. Then after the world returned to relative normality after Covid, I discovered I could run pretty well and thought I would give Modern Pentathlon a go and started to take my fencing a bit more seriously.

I was first selected to represent GBR at Cadet level (U17) when I was 12 and have gained lots of experience over the last 3 years, including winning a European Fencing Circuit Under 14 event in 2023 (Sofia, Bulgaria) and finishing that season Ranked No 2 in Europe and also being selected for Great Britain at the Under 17 European Modern Pentathlon Championships in 2024.

This last season has been very up and down. I was delighted to win the British Cadet Championships in September (with another year in age group) and gaining my best Cadet European Circuit result to that point in Budapest in early October. Unfortunately, 2 weeks later, at the next event in Klagenfurt, I tore a ligament in my wrist and had to sit out pretty much 3 months of the season.

Having proven my fitness just before the cut off for the European Championship's selection date, I was selected for the GBR Cadet squad to travel to Antalya, Turkey to be held at the end of February. Then a solid result in Serbia took me back up to 3rd on the British Rankings, which put me in the selection zone for the World Championships in Wuxi, China, for which I was selected for last week.

With another year in the Cadet age-group, funding is going to be a real struggle and having rode the wave of injury, I do not want to miss the opportunity to compete at the 2025 European & World Championships, as you can never be sure what may happen in the future.

Any funds raised will be used to pay towards me attending the European/World Championships, and if there were excess funds, to support my attendance to events in the coming season.

Expected cost to attend
European Cadet Championships - Antalya, Turkey - £1500
World Cadet Championships - Wuxi, China - £2500

Please share and donate if you can. Any donation, however little, will really help, as the costs to fence at this level are ridiculously high, with over £200 needed to be spent for centrally organised costs for each event I attend (referee costs, head office admin and actual competition entry fees), before flights, airport parking, accommodation, other transport and food costs are taken into account, with any trip to qualifier events abroad coming in at a minimum of £500.

If anyone knows of any individual or company who would be willing to sponsor a young athlete, please DM me on Instagram - izzy_howser
