Help Jack O’Brien. Acute myeloid leukemia
While donating plasma recently, my brother, John “Jack” Christopher O’Brien, had low platelet and iron counts when they tested his blood. One test led to another and after two bone biopsies showed results consistent with leukemia, cancer of the blood, he was admitted to KU med and is beginning chemotherapy today (12/11/20). There are plans for testing everyone in the family as potential bone marrow matches. This has been extremely fast and we have had less than a few days working through this information.
The current diagnosis is Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This is one of the most aggressive forms of blood cancer.
The entire family is being tested for covid-19 so that when we have the opportunity to visit him we can do so without risking exposure in his immunocompromised state.
My brother is the emotional center of this family. We have always called him our rock. He is always putting the needs of others before himself and even now is having a difficult time asking for help from anyone. He graduated with a degree in digital animation from Missouri Western University. He was furloughed early in the pandemic and his position was eliminated. He is currently unemployed and uninsured.
If there is anything you can do to help please let us know. We are looking for every prayer and good thought you can send his way. We are directing funds collected through my parents.
