Jacob is known and loved by everyone he meets. No one is a stranger to him. We have all woken up some morning to find him sleeping on our couch, having borrowed our clothes and toothpaste and we are never mad about it because of the joy he brings to our lives.
On March 2nd 2021, what started as a simple trip to the ER for some stomach pain revealed a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis after finding a mass in his colon and lesions on his liver. Over the years, Jake has had multiple ablations, resections, surgeries, chemo, radiation, an HAI pump placed in his liver, and many other procedures. As of August 2025, he’s had 30+ chemo treatments and too many doctors appointments to count. He’s consulted with Ohio Health, The James at Ohio State Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering (in NY), Cleveland Clinic, and the Zangmeister Clinic. While he’s been close to “no evidence of disease”, he has not be able to surpass being cancer free for more than 6 months. As of August 2025 and after many consultations, his doctors agree that for several reasons, a liver transplant may be his best option. Therefore, Jake is starting his journey toward looking for a liver transplant with the Cleveland Clinic.
While so many of you have helped the Trego’s reach an outstanding about of financial means upon Jake’s diagnosis, they are now facing the unknown. A liver transplant would mean; many appointments, multiple months off work for Roz and Jake, long recovery time and many other unpredictable needs. Many people have reached out wanting to help in any way that they can. So we created this page as a way for you to show your love and support for Jacob, his wife Roz, and the Trego family on this journey. The plan is to get in front of the medical bills that will come with treatment and help cover other monthly costs. We are hoping and praying that this will be the means to his new cancer-free journey.
Some of the many ways that you can help:
Pending Jake is eligible for a liver transplant, here is where you can reach out to the Cleveland Clinic Liver Transplant team; if you feel called to donate a portion of your liver. Please click here to be directed to the Living Donor Page at Cleveland Clinic for more information. Jake can receive a donor of A or O blood types (+/- doesn’t matter), amongst other factors.
