Dire Need for Tornado Relief in New Orleans
Donation protected

Jaie is my friend and this is her story.....
Jaie is an extraordinary educator, mother, woman of color and my dear friend. She has given so much to others and now needs our helping hands. After Katrina in 2005, despite her personal losses and opportunities in San Diego, Jaie chose to return back to Ninth Ward in New Orleans to welcome back and teach traumatized, economically and disadvantaged students. In retirement, she opened her home and heart to Black students who struggled to read. Although Hurricane Ida damaged her home in 2021, she continued to serve these students, holding class in her carport. Finally, on March 23, 2022, a tornado devastated her home and shut down her mentoring. Her losses are great but her spirit remains resilient.
Jaie has always worked, saved and carried insurance but it is not enough to fix what needs to be fixed: roof, gutters, fence, windows and carport floor. She is determined to continue to offer educational services and stability to students who need her, but she needs a functional, safe home. I want to help Jaie’s ministry so I’m organizing this collective Call to Action. Let’s reward Jaie’s years of devotion by raising funds to repair her home. Jaie, her students and her community will benefit from your generosity.
