Help Jake Marshall Beat Cancer

Donation protected
In short: Our best friend, Jake Marshall (28) has been dealing with excruciating hip pain over the last few years. After initially being diagnosed with a torn hip labrum, last month, we received devastating news as he was also diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, which has metastasized to his lymph nodes and lungs. Due to the mass size on his hip & the spread to his lungs and lymph nodes, doctors estimate that he is in stage 3 or 4 at this time, pending PET scan results on Friday, January 13. Jake's long bumpy road begins on Monday, January 16th when he starts chemotherapy at IU Health.

For those who don’t know Jake, he would give his last breath of air and last dollar to his name to help someone in need. Right now, he needs our help. We started this GoFundMe to help Jake and his family with

  • Living expenses to cover Jake's bills while he is out of work during treatment, post-removal of the tumor, and hip labrum repair
  • Medical expenses and consultations not covered by insurance.
  • Treatment not covered by insurance

We will update you all regularly on his progress and post future fundraising events.

Background: As some of you already know, we received some devastating news on Jake’s diagnosis before the holidays. For months, actually the last few years, he has been complaining of hip pain. It has become debilitating in the past 5-6 months, causing him to be unable to work or live a normal life. After countless appointments with a chiropractor, Jake went to OrthoIndy for further testing.

Timeline of Events:
Doctors thought he just had a labrum tear and would do surgery in January to repair it. Shortly after this appointment, he went for an MRI where a fist-sized mass was discovered on his hip. After a biopsy, Jake was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that causes masses in the joints.

Just before the New Year, doctors found that the cancer has spread into his lymph nodes and lungs. On Friday, January 13th, he will go in for a PET scan to determine the severity of the spread. At this time, doctors have estimated that his cancer is in Stage 3 or 4, and Jake is already preparing to start Chemotherapy on Monday, January 16th.

How To Support Jake Through This Journey:
Jake has been and will continue to be out of work for some time, we are starting this GoFundMe page to help Jake and his family cover monthly bills and medical costs, as insurance will not cover the entirety of his treatment.

If GoFundMe isn’t your cup of tea, we are also planning to do a few other fundraisers in the near future to help raise money. Keep an eye out if you would like to contribute to his journey in any way!

We know this is a very tough time for a lot of us financially, so if you are unable to donate please share this link and send Jake good vibes, prayers, and positive energy his way.

We will continue to update this page as we find out more information. If anyone would like an addresses & room number to send letters, flowers, etc. - Please reach out and we will share the info with you!

Whether you spread the word and/or support, just know you are helping Jake and his family immensely, as they have been through so much over the last year. We appreciate all your love & support ❤️
