Help Jake Pay His Hospital Bills

Jake is a guy who lives his life for others, but now he needs our help.

In December, Jake fell on ice and broke his ankle in three places. Luckily, a neighbor was nearby to call 911 to get him to the hospital. Jake found out that he'd need surgery to fix his leg if he was going to walk again, along with months of physical therapy. Jake works in catering and food service, so he needed to get surgery if he hoped to eventually get back to work. He made the right choice to get the surgery.

Jake couldn't walk or work for months. Because the injury happened outside of work, he didn’t qualify for unemployment assistance and ultimately lost his company’s insurance. Now, six months later, he's still in pain, but he's back at work trying to pay off what he owes. After insurance, he's been left on the hook with $3,200 in outstanding hospital bills, plus a $700 ambulance bill for a ride of a few blocks. It's near impossible to make that much money and still be able to afford rent in our industry. To help make sure that Jake's medical bills don't get sent to an abusive debt collections agency, we need to pitch in.

Jake is someone who has spent most of his adult life helping others. During the pandemic, Jake mostly worked full time. Still, he spent his free time helping other people who were struggling navigate the unemployment system and stay in their homes in the depths of the crisis. For many people, Jake is the guy they lean on when they're in trouble and need support. It's time for us to give Jake the same help that he's given others.
