Help James get out of the US to escape transphobia!

note: I may update the goal to include costs for my mother because she may decide to join me.

Hi, My name is James, I am a 33 year old transgender man and I need to go to the Netherlands to find safety from transphobic policies that I am anticipating from the new presidential administration. As laid out in Project 2025, any content related to trans people is to be considered obscene and illegal, which means that anything I have ever said in writing about even my day to day life could potentially put me in prison if this comes to pass. On top of that, I work with children as a special education aide. I spent so much of my time trying to help schools in my hometown become more inclusive, but now I fear that my proximity to kids as a trans person could also be criminalized.

Currently I live and work in California after leaving my hometown of Kodiak, Alaska out of fear for my safety this election year, but I don’t think that this is going to be enough. I want to be able to live my life normally without constantly having to be afraid that my ability to live as myself or to live at all could be outlawed. I am now trying to get to the Netherlands on a DAFT (Dutch American Friendship Treaty) visa.

This fundraiser was previously for college in Norway, but I do not have time to safely reach that goal. It will now be for the cost of moving to the Netherlands and establishing a freelance art and crafts business (starting a business is the main requirement for a DAFT visa).
