Veteran James Ski for Mental Health Charities

I'm James Redden, a former soldier who, in 2000, underwent brain surgery to remove a tumour.
I am planning to ski to the across Alaska in February 2022, to raise funds andawareness Lindengate, a local mental health charity. I will travelling with a team mate, although unsupported to demonstrate that we are our own best resource when faced with huge challenges.
Over the past six years I've dared to travel to some of the coldest places on Earth. My journeys have taken me across Greenland, to the North Pole and, most recently, 400 miles along the frozen surface of Lake Baikal, in 12 days. Now a bigger challenge calls me, one that will test my physical endurance and resolve to the limit.
For the past 20 years, I’ve been working through the resulting brain trauma and poor mental health that, at the lowest points, left me with a memory span of only a few seconds. In those worst moments I harmed my body and mind in ways that might seem inconceivable to some. I've run a guantlet of voices in my head, kicking me down at every opportunity.
And I found the means to haul myself out from that pit.
Unfortunately, much of my journey back to good health was one I travlled alone. I don't want anyone else to have to have that same experience which is why my fundraising efforts will be in aid of Lindengate.
Here's more about Lindengate, in their own words:
Lindengate is a Buckinghamshire-based registered charity that offers specialised gardening activities to help those with mental health needs in their continuing recovery.
Operating from a 5-acre site adjacent to Dobbies Garden Centre in Wendover Lindengate offers a wide range of nature based activities so that users can spend time in a managed and calm and safe environment, either singly or in small groups, working towards recovery.
Lindengate was conceived in 2012, became a Registered Charity in September 2013 and opened in November 2014.
The name Lindengate comes from mixing the Old English name for a Lime tree – ‘Linden’, known for its recuperative and stress-relieving properties and the ‘Gate’, symbolising passing through on the journey to recovery.
