Help James Zueger Keep Our Lakes Clean

Hi, I am fundraising on behalf of my father James Zueger. He is a 70 year old retired ironworker who has a deep passion to save the environment one kayak ride at a time.

Here's how he does that: He takes his kayak out daily to clean out trash in the lakes as well as cleaning the trash from the shorelines. He modified his kayak with added decks to be able to haul the trash. For approximately the last 10 years, he has spent about a thousand hours per year cleaning up trash in the area's lakes in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

He was named as the recipient of the 2020 National Volunteer Award by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of the Youghiogheny River Lake in the Pittsburgh District for his many hours of hard work and dedication to clean up the lakes.

His mission for years has been to help the environment and the surrounding communities by cleaning the lakes of waste products. Although he deals with lyme disease, nothing stops him from getting up every day and making sure the trash is getting removed from our lakes.

He has to pay for gas money to and from these lakes and with the prices of gas these days-it is a big expense to incur. Most often he spends an average of two hours travel time per day to do this. He does this, weather permitting, every day of the week from March- mid December.
