Help Jamie Home to Heal
Coming home is always one of my favorite parts of traveling. I just returned from Maui a few hours ago and I’m still processing some serious events and lamenting my cousin’s situation.
On her first day on the island, we were adventuring and my cousin Jamie hit a rock with her foot. She came out of the water with a deep and badly bleeding wound. Thankfully, a nurse and EMT were present to help get the bleeding under control before she had to hike the thirty minutes up a rustic path on one foot back to the car. She showed amazing strength and true grit to all, including my daughter and little cousin She was rushed for emergency surgery on two severed tendons, a severed nerve, and considerable tissue damage. The surgeon said this was a severe trauma. His outlook at her follow up appointment yesterday was positive but traveling back to the comforts of home is not possible for at least another week.
Please help Jamie get home to heal! These expenses were unexpected and are overwhelming. Jamie is a recent college graduate, starting her first art teaching position in August. The road to recovery will be long, not to mention emotionally and fiscally exhausting. Anyone who loves to adventure and can empathize with her plight, please consider donating. For reference, a meal in Maui is about $15 and the necessary (she will need space to elevate her foot) one way first class ticket home is $1500...of course, every little bit helps get Jamie home, healed, and healthy!
