I also want to recognize these specific individuals.
• Dr. Shaun Evans and Ms. Maria Phillips > My former high School band directors who continuously took the time and effort to check-in on my well-being, provided me with amazing advice when it came to me being the best version of myself, and for believing in me when no one else would. I accept this position/opportunity in honor of you… my teachers.
• Jarah Whitehead and Emilee Mau > These two ladies are the reason why I know how to conduct in the first place. Throughout my high school career, they took the time to meet with me early before school or after school to help me establish my conducting style, and for that I will be forever grateful.
• Emily Randall > My best-friend in the whole wide world, Emily has been right by my side since Freshman Year of High School. We both started band together, we both held onto this friendship through thick and thin, and she’s seen the process firsthand all of the work I’ve put into the marching arts. I can’t thank her enough for showing me endless unconditional love and support.
• Marvin Reed > In 2013 Marvin Reed was the first African American Drum Major for the Blue Devils, Marvin has been my guide through this whole entire journey, providing me comfort and advice all throughout my auditions. At November Camp Marvin allowed me to stay in his home, feed me, and really has treated me like a brother. Thank you, Marvin, paving the way for me, and may the legacy continue.
• Chasen Young > Chasen was the person who has been giving me private lessons to this day. He is always respectful and was honest with me throughout it all. He fought for me, gave me clarity during questionable times, and has been the best teacher I could ask for.
