Wij – vrienden en familie van Jasmijn Groenewegen – willen niets liever dan dat zij het leven van een gewone 20-jarige kan leiden: bouwen aan haar toekomst, spontaan met vrienden afspreken, lekker uit eten gaan, de wereld ontdekken, ‘haar’ turnmeisjes van SV Doto in Bergschenhoek trainen en gewoon genieten!

Dat zit er nu allemaal niet in omdat Jasmijn heel erg ziek en verzwakt is door een nare en zeldzame aandoening die helaas steeds erger wordt. Een zware buikoperatie in Spanje bij een van de weinige specialisten wereldwijd moet haar helpen om haar leven weer terug te krijgen. We zijn dankbaar voor iedere bijdrage, hoe klein dan ook.

De ziekte

Al haar hele leven heeft Jasmijn last van buikpijn en misselijkheid. In november 2021 hielden de aanvallen van pijn en misselijkheid echter niet meer op. Ze werden zo hevig dat Jasmijn in haar examenjaar van het VWO meerdere malen in het ziekenhuis belandde en weinig naar school kon waardoor ze het VWO nog niet heeft kunnen afronden. Eten lukte nauwelijks meer. Ze viel steeds verder af, werd extreem moe en futloos bovenop de pijn en misselijkheid. Via de huisarts ging zij de medische molen in. Ze kreeg een neussonde omdat ze niets meer binnenhield.

Sindsdien zijn er vele echo’s en scans gemaakt in meerdere ziekenhuizen in Nederland en Duitsland, hebben artsen elkaar tegengesproken en is er veel getwijfeld. Jasmijn heeft wekenlang in het ziekenhuis gelegen en krijgt nu voeding direct via haar aders., omdat het via de sonde niet meer lukt. Het gaat niet goed met haar.

Inmiddels is gelukkig wel duidelijk wat er aan de hand is: Jasmijn heeft op meerdere plekken in haar buik afgeknelde aders die bijvoorbeeld haar maag en nieren van bloed moeten voorzien. Dat noem je ‘compressie’. Deze compressies zorgen voor veel pijn en misselijkheid en de problemen met eten en drinken. Onderliggende oorzaak is een bindweefselaandoening die helaas niet te genezen is.

De oplossing

Is er aan de compressies wel iets te doen? In Nederland kunnen ze er op dit moment helaas niets aan doen en zit er niets anders op dan ermee te leren leven. Zoals je zult begrijpen is dat geen optie. We hebben een arts in Spanje gevonden die veel kennis en ervaring heeft met onderzoek en behandeling van deze compressies en een eigen specialistisch team hiervoor heeft samengesteld.

Spannend? Zeker! Toch is Jasmijn zoals altijd positief en hoopvol. Deze specialist zal haar opnieuw grondig onderzoeken, bepalen welke compressies hij kan verhelpen en bekijken welke plekken eventueel zelf kunnen herstellen.

Waarom deze crowdfunding?

De zorgverzekeraar vergoedt de operatie niet. Deze wordt namelijk in Nederland (nog) niet uitgevoerd en zit dus niet in het basispakket. Daarom is er een flink bedrag nodig.

Haar moeder en stiefvader zorgen met liefde voor haar, maar moeten veel opzijzetten, regelen en zelf betalen. Zelfs sommige noodzakelijke medicijnen. Met het geld van deze crowdfunding hopen wij niet alleen de kosten van Jasmijns operatie te kunnen dekken, maar ook de vluchten, het verblijf en een deel van de kosten van de mantelzorgers. Hoe klein je bijdrage ook is, namens vrienden en familie van Jasmijn: DANK JE WEL!

We – Jasmijn Groenewegen’s family and friends – want nothing more than for her to live the life of a regular 20-year-old; building her future, spontaneously meeting up with her friends, going out to dinner, discovering the world, training ‘her’ gymnastics girls at SV Doto in Bergschenhoek and just enjoying life!

All of that is impossible at the moment because Jasmijn is severely ill and weakened by an awful and rare condition that unfortunately keeps progressing. Major abdominal surgery in Spain with one of the few specialists in the world is necessary to help get her life back on track. We are incredibly grateful for every donation, no matter how small.

The illness

Jasmijn is no stranger to being ill; she has been suffering from abdominal pain and nausea her entire life. However, in November of 2021 the bouts of pain and nausea would not let up. They became so intense that, during her final year of secondary school, she ended up in hospital multiple times, leading her to miss most of her classes and she was therefore unable to take her final exams. It was nearly impossible for her to eat, which resulted in continuous weight loss and on top of all of the pain and nausea, she became utterly exhausted. Her GP started all of the medical examinations and because she could hardly keep anything down, she was given a nasal feeding tube.

Since then there have been numerous scans and ultrasounds in multiple hospitals in both the Netherlands and Germany, doctors have given contradicting evaluations and there has been a lot of doubt. Jasmijn has been in hospital for weeks and as the tube feeding no longer works she now receives nutrients and fluids directly into her bloodstream. She is not doing well.

Fortunately doctors have now figured out what is wrong with her; she has arteries in her abdomen that are supposed to deliver blood to, amongst other things, her stomach and kidneys, but can’t because they are under too much pressure. This pressure is called ‘compression’. These compressions are the cause of her pain and nausea and also of the difficulties she is experiencing with eating and drinking. The underlying cause of all of this is a connective tissue disease that unfortunately is not curable.

The solution

Is there anything doctors can do about the compressions? Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done here in the Netherlands, which obviously is not an option. Luckily we have found a doctor in Spain who has a lot of expertise in researching and treating these compressions and has set up his own specialist team.

Scary? Absolutely! Yet Jasmijn remains positive and hopeful as ever. This specialist will do another thorough examination, determine which compressions he can repair and which compressions might heal on their own.

Why crowdfunding?

Jasmijn’s health care provider does not cover the costs of the operation as part of her health care package, as this operation is not (yet) performed in the Netherlands. That is why we are trying to raise a substantial amount of money.

Her mother and stepfather take care of her with an abundance of love, but this situation means they have to arrange and pay for everything themselves. Even some of the necessary medications. The money raised though this crowdfunding is meant to cover not only the costs of her surgery, but hopefully it will also cover the costs of the flights, accommodation in Spain and at least part of the post-op care.
