Help Jason Fight Glioblastoma Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Jason dela Cruz is a 42 yr old CPA.  A husband and father of 3 to Samantha 23, Tyler 16 and Kayden 13.

The dela Cruz family lives was altered back in March.  Back on Saturday March 7th Jason was admitted to the ICU due to his diabetes.  They performed tests and scans to rule out any other issues. Before they knew it, a neurosurgeon came into his room to tell his wife (at this point Jason condition deteriorated) that he has a large mass on his left frontal lobe.  On Monday March 9th he had his first craniotomy.  They removed 90% of the mass without causing much damage to his cognitive functions.

A few days after his surgery Jason showed signs of great improvement.  Then he and his family were told that he has a Grade 4 Glioblastoma (GBM), a rare and aggressive brain cancer.

Following his surgery, he was in the ICU for several days then transferred to inpatient rehab.  During this time COVID-19 hit and they started to restrict visitors.  By the time he went to rehab he could no longer have visitors.  With his cognitive impaired, it was hard to not have his wife by his side to help navigate everything that was going on.

After another week he was able to go home to continue his rehab.  The next plan of treatment was chemo and radiation for 6 weeks.

After his chemo and radiation treatments completed, he went back to work part-time in May.  He and his employer wanted to see how he could handle the workload before he could go back full time.  During this time, he started “maintenance” chemo that he would be on for the next 6 months.

During the second month of his “maintenance” chemo, he started to struggle with work.  He had trouble remembering simple accounting functions and finding his words.  His MRI showed a new mass with excessive brain swelling.  He went in for a second craniotomy on August 27th.  This time around he was able to go home within a few days. He has since then restarted his chemotherapy.

He is currently unable to return to work and is on long term disability, but he is still trying his best and helping out the local little league baseball by being their treasurer.  His LTD covers about 50% of his loss income (it pays out at 60% but he has to pay $800 a month out of pocket for medical insurance for him and the boys).  Over the past several months they have depleted their savings to cover the loss of half of his income.  Jason was the main source of income for the family.  Rebecca is still working full-time from home, taking care of Jason and the kids (who are currently doing virtual learning from home).  The children themselves are taking this to heart and doing everything they can to help out around the house and support their father.

They are putting their positivity forward and putting faith in god that he isn’t just another point on the statistic board. That he will overcome and be an exception to a longer life. He may have his deficits from gaining this cancer, but Jason and the family is working their hardest to overcome them.

They ask, if you can, help donate.  If you do not wish to donate to them, then please donate to any brain cancer foundations to help find a cure.

Funds from this campaign will be used to help cover medical insurance as well as supplement living expenses related to getting Jason healthy. Any help that you can provide is forever appreciated and will help Jason and his family focus on treatments and quality of life.
