Help Jay get a Handicap Accessible Van
Donation protected
In 2001, my father Jay was diagnosed with a condition known as Sporadic Ataxia. Characterized by slow and degenerative damage to the cerebellum, this condition progresses slowly over the course of years, similar to Parkinson’s. Some patients succumb quickly, others can fight this as long as thirty or more years.
Jay’s condition progressed very slowly for a decade, initially affecting his speech and balance, then over time his ability to play guitar and other fine motor functions. This condition has, piece by piece, affected every aspect of his life.
In 2013 he began relying on the use of a wheelchair for mobility, following a severe fall. For many years he’s been able to transfer himself from his wheelchair into a car without much trouble. This has become more difficult over the years as his condition progresses, and the transfer now is both difficult and dangerous. He doesn’t leave the house much anymore, only for doctor’s appointments or procedures he can’t avoid.
I’d like to change that.
We want to get a van that is wheelchair accessible for Jay. These can range in price, but to help ensure we get a vehicle that lasts, we are looking to raise enough money for one that is a 2013 or newer. It is extremely important to get this van as soon as possible, because every time he has to transfer himself from his wheelchair into a car, he’s risking a fall.
My dad has been battling his condition for almost two decades, with courage and determination. Please help us ensure that Jay can safely leave the house, and give him back his freedom.
