As some of you may know, our good friend Jay McCoy is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Northwest Texas Hospital due to a medical emergency. It started on June 30 with some back and leg pain on his right side and by Saturday, July 1st he was in the ER unable to walk or even stand on his own. He was in severe pain and had a number of further ER visits. During these visits, the doctors did multiple cat scans, x-rays, and MRIs to try and figure out the problem and it was discovered that a severe staph infection was in his spine. He went in for emergency surgery to remove all of the infection and is now in recovery. This is going to be a long road of recovery for Jay. He will be out of work for the foreseeable future (at least a few months). As you all may know, a stay like this is very expensive and he will have a significant amount of medical bills. Due to Jay being out of work, he and his fiancee Katie will not be able to afford the rent at their newly rented home among a list of other bills that are going to pile up.
A lot of you know Jay as a storm chaser with KAMR 4, an aviation enthusiast, and others as a volunteer at the Amarillo Emergency Services (AES) which is part of the Amarillo Police Department. Jay spends a significant amount of his time helping others and volunteering for the community. Jay has been a volunteer at the AES for over 20 years. This has been a critical life-changing event as Jay is working on recovery to be able to walk again. It is time for us to help Jay as he has helped so many of us in so many ways. Jay is the type of man who won't ask for anything, but I know he is going to need help with his medical bills as well as his rent and utilities. Please consider helping Jay. Thank you!
