Help Jeff Rentfro Weather Cancer Treatments!
Donation protected
Hi there,
My name is Kelsey Rentfro-Cline, daughter of Jeff Rentfro. Unfortunately, the past few years have been one health struggle after another. Specifically this time, though the diagnosis continues to be updated, he has begun aggressive chemotherapy treatments for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, or CLL, which has caused all the lymph nodes in his abdomen to enflame, his belly to fill with fluid, his appetite to be non-existent, and extreme fatigue.
In America, there's this cultural narrative that if we just work really hard, we'll get what we need. Well, Jeff (and Sherrie, his wife) has worked really hard his entire life, and the reality of ever-moving goalposts has meant that ends have still not always been met. The past few years of various medical issues leading up to this diagnosis have certainly contributed to that, as well.
So, as is too often the case here, we're reaching out via crowdsourcing to help Jeff and Sherrie weather this cancer storm. Hospital stays and treatments are expensive. Traveling to and from Peoria is expensive. FMLA is unpaid time off, so Sherrie needing to take time off work to drive Jeff to his treatments has resulted in lost wages. Jeff's health in other ways, such as neglected dental work due to all other expenses, has taken a hit.
Jeff is on disability from previous health issues and some Medicaid, but they could use help covering what isn't covered by those two sources. I've set the fundraiser amount at a number that certainly help, but I'd love to surpass it.
Like many men of his generation, asking for help feels like a bridge too far--but help is what is needed. If you can offer anything, it would be deeply appreciated.
Other things to know about Jeff, besides his cancer diagnosis:
- Jeff is a 1978 Rockridge High School graduate.
- He is a Cubs, Bears, and Hawkeyes fan.
- He went back to school in his 50s for an HVAC certification.
- He will pretty much always dance to "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
- The picture I chose for the header is part of only about 5% of the time when he's not wearing a ball cap.
