Help Jen Go The Extra Mile!
Donation protected
Jen is a special education teacher who also coaches Special Olympics. She has an adorable dog-named Dudley who loves to go on walks with her. She is a very positive and determined individual who has not only committed to her personal wellness through physical therapy and personal training, but is committed to her family, friends, and students.
Jen has cerebral palsy- spastic diplegia and recently had surgery to relieve severe pain in her left foot. She has difficulty clearing her feet when she walks, due to spasticity. Her recent surgery helped, but it is very energy consuming to stay on her feet at work.
- Jen without WalkAide Medical Device
Jen was recently able to trial a WalkAide, a medical device, which provides electrical stimulation to the muscles of the lower leg. The stimulus is designed to deliver at the motion of a step, and allow the user's toes to clear the floor for a safe walking pattern. She saw incredible changes in her walking pattern and was able to clear her toes from the floor, increase her step length, walk longer distances without falling, and overall felt less back and leg pain at the end of a workday.
- Jen with WalkAide
Jen tried applying for insurance coverage, but was denied and denied an appeal.
Having the WalkAide would allow Jen to go the extra mile (literally!) for herself and everyone she inspires!
