Jen's Story
Hi, I am Lynn LeBlanc, one of Jen Mancini’s many friends. I have joined forces with Jen’s employer, Strategic Environmental Services, to put this fundraiser together. Our goal is to help with as much of the medical expenses that Jen will be facing on this journey.
On May 9, 2023, Jen went to the emergency room due to her eyes and skin being jaundiced, she was quickly admitted and various tests began. With no clear answers, and six days of hospitalization, she was released and went home. Four days later after blood test results showed unsafe levels, she was admitted back to the hospital. Jen's liver continued to shut down and another endoscopy surgery was performed. Three stents were surgically placed in the liver in an effort to help her body output the toxins. Thankfully this procedure was successful and Jen was released after four days in the hospital.
On June 13, 2023, after countless CT scans, Biopsies, MRIs, and ultrasounds, Jen was diagnosed with Stage 4 Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) in her stomach. A GIST is a type of cancer that begins in the digestive system, occurring most often in the stomach and small intestine. GIST is a fairly rare condition with only 4,000-6,000 cases identified each year. The first line of treatment was oral receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) which was not effective. Unfortunately, the recent scan results indicate the tumor has not been reduced in size. As a result, the treatment will change to a new receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) inhibitor.
For those of us who know and love Jen, she is one who will never back down from a fight, or challenge presented to her. Her quick wit and sense of humor are like no other! She proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1994-1998 as Corporal (E-4 honorable discharge), is the dedicated mother of two beautiful children, (Maddy and Owen), a coach for both of the kids’ soccer teams, a CrossFit athlete, a successful businesswoman at Strategic Environment Services and a loyal friend to all that meet her.
Jen is a very private person who never asks for anything and is the type of friend who would be there to help anyone in need. It is now our time to help her. The medical expenses she is faced with and the uncertainty regarding what lies ahead treatment-wise, will likely amount to a huge burden both financially and emotionally. We respectfully ask for your help to assist Jen and her family through this difficult time. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
