Help Jenny and Dave Overcome Tough Challenges

The Owls, Elena Callas King, Lisa Leech Paquette, Maureen Kelly Ragland, and Rebecca Bagatelas are asking you to donate money to this emergency fund for fellow Owl, Jenny McPherson Anthony, and Dave Anthony.

Two months ago, Jenny was admitted to the ER with RSV. She quickly became worse to the point where her heart was only functioning at 10%. The Dr.'s didn't think she would make it. Being the strong woman that she is, Jenny persevered and is recovering at the University of Iowa Hospital. She has had her challenges. Due to low heart function, Jenny has had her left hand amputated below the elbow and both of her feet amputated below the knees. Life will be different for Jenny, but as she said, "I will have to figure out different ways to play with the grandchildren." She hopes to move to the University of Iowa Rehab Center soon.

Last April, Dave fell on wrought iron furniture, while mowing the lawn. He was airlifted to Peoria with two broken shoulders, a broken hip and back. After a multi week stay in Peoria, he was moved to rehab in Aledo, IL. 45 minutes from their home. Jenny drove to visit and care for him every day. They made a first-floor bedroom for Dave as he still cannot take stairs or drive. He had only been home two weeks when Jenny got sick.

It is almost unimaginable that one family can have this much medical crises within 6 months. Between the two incidents, the Anthony's have had at least 30 overnight stays and hundreds of road trips to the hospital with more in the future. The loss of work income along with staggering medical expenses and additional transportation and lodging expenses has been overwhelming.

The plan is for Jenny to move to University of Iowa Rehab and then to be home by Nov. 1. There are many modifications that need to be made to their house before she can move back. Below is a list of immediate needs that they have to allow Jenny to be at home.

Travel & Lodging $1000, Rehab co-pay for 3 weeks at $408/day $8568, Home modifications to include ramp, bathroom modifications and other necessary remodeling $6200,

Car downpayment as their car was recently in an accident and needs to be replaced. $3000.

There are subsidies that Dave will be applying for, that may help with some of the above list. The problem being the time it takes to secure these funds and the uncertainties of receiving them. Before Jenny's illness, the expenses of Dave being in the Peoria hospital and then 3 months in rehab were staggering.
