Help my son Jeremy Canouse recover from Long Covid
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Lisa Collins and this is my 27- year old son Jeremy Canouse. Jeremy contracted the Covid virus in April 2022. He has been diagnosed with Long Haul Covid and going into his 15th month. Jeremy suffers from daily debilitating headaches, vision issues, brain fog and fatigue. There are many days where the pressure in his head is so bad he can barely function and the smallest of activity makes him nauseous which confines him to his bedroom. These pressure headaches are different from migraines and have affected his vision to the point of having trouble with depth perception, black spots and a film that appears in this visual field and also halos. He has developed a skin rash and experiencing Reynaud symptoms which creates poor circulation in his hands and feet. This in turn shows that he is having an Auto Immune response to the Covid virus.
After seeing 9 different doctors and trying everything from supplements to prescriptions medications and integrative care, there is still no improvement. There are times when Jeremy thinks something may be working and then he will have what they call a "Covid Crash" which can come from too much stimulation, exercise or just trying to do regular daily activities. It will spiral him back down that same rabbit hole and he has to climb himself out. Bloodwork recently has shown that he is testing positive for antinuclear antibodies which means that he is still fighting the Covid virus. So far the doctors do not have a handle on this debilitating virus because it’s too new and there is not enough research. They have just started to understand the neurological issues people are having with Long Haul Covid and inflammation of the nerves in the brain. We are still hoping there will be a cure in the near future as we continue to move forward and search all new and different options.
Here is a little background information on Jeremy: After completing his Bachelor's degree in Business Entrepreneurship with Judicial studies as a minor, Jeremy worked 2 jobs and saved his money to be able to go back to school for his Master's Degree. Jeremy received his Master in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems in September of 2021. Jeremy then had to undergo back surgery and after his recovery, he started a certificate program in Cyber Security which he needed to secure an IT job with the government. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish the program or capable of securing a job due to this debilitating illness.
As a family, we decided to consider a GoFundme. Jeremy was very reluctant to do this and did not want to be a burden to others. However, Jeremy has agreed to allow me to set up an account and tell his story.
We are reaching out to family and friends with very grateful hearts for financial help so Jeremy can continue to receive medical attention and help pay his monthly bills. We have been struggling with certain treatments and medications not being covered by insurance and we must travel 1.5 hours each way to see his specialists. At this point, we feel that this is his only option especially after investigating Social Security Disability Benefits and finding that they are not recognizing Long Haul Covid and more than likely he will be turned down even though he has documented debilitating headaches for 15 months. The whole process can take at least 6 months or more before you can get an answer and then be able to appeal.
From Jeremy:
I never thought I would ever be in such a terrible and dire situation as this. I did everything I was supposed to do, I got vaccinated, wore my masks, and stayed home. But, here I am still fighting to be well again. I have so many plans for my future. I want to have a full-time job again and pursue my ideas to start my own business. I so desperately want to be a contributing member of society again. I am forever grateful to anyone that can donate. No donation is ever too small and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Bless you all!
