We made this GoFundMe to help support Jerome with travel expenses to Ghana where he has been invited to speak at Afrochella in Accra, Ghana!
Meet Jerome Richardson, who needs our help URGENTLY to book his trip for December 25th!!! And cover expenses while im Ghana.
Executive Director of Minnesota Teen Activists and current political science student at Temple University. From an early age, Jerome was faced with odds; having a single mother, incarcerated father, speech disability, and issues of discrimination because of his skin color. In spite of these things he has managed to be resilient and push the needle forward. Jerome never foreshadowed the many opportunities of speaking in National platforms for social justice, at one point in his life he fell in to a steep depression because he was battling with stuttering.
Over the course of the past few years, Jerome has led teens all across the state of Minnesota to fight against injustices. But now has been granted opportunities to expand his wings and make impacts on a larger and international scale.
Jerome has been invited to support Joe Biden’s 2022 African Leader Summit in D.C., as well as Afrochella 2022 in Accra, Ghana. Jerome never imagined his willingness to stand up for others and for what is right would take him this far, including traveling as far as Accra, Ghana. On December 27th, Jerome will be a keynote speaker and panelist advocating on issues of solidary between youth in the continent and diaspora. Jerome is excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He feels as though he will be able to fully engross himself in a lot of his lineage and history that he has never directly been exposed to. He is excited to learn more about his culture and the places he and his ancestors come from.
From the beginning of high school leading up to college, Jerome quickly gained status as a prodigy and young phenom that pioneered young people all across the state of Minnesota to stand up against social injustices. Along with his organization, Minnesota Teen Activists, Jerome led students in several walkouts, protests, town halls, and student engagement forums to tackle issues such as gun safety, community violence, arts cuts, covid outbreaks in schools, sexual assault, and racism.
Jerome has been always passionate about taking his activism to different spaces and across the world. In February, he helped evacuate African students who were attempting to flee the war in Ukraine while also experiencing racism at the border. For Jerome, this was quite a new experience, he had never contributed to anti-racism work outside of the country. This opportunity led to Jerome aspiring to visit his ancestral continent and helping advocate for the diaspora.
These experiences haven’t been the easiest for Jerome, but he is determined. He hopes that community members will contribute to help make his dreams true and provide the enriching experiences and culture that he desires to learn more about.
