My name is Desiree and this campaign is to help my sister Jesenia Rodriguez with the financial burden of cancer. She is a 35 year old single mom of a 7 year old little girl named Gabriella. She works in the service industry with Benefit Brow Bar at Ulta and has impacted and made friends with many of her clients. She is kind and has a huge heart.
Here's her story: Starting in July/August of 2017 she found herself waking up with migraines almost daily which was not normal for her. For months different symptoms kept popping up such as dizziness, extreme exhaustion, not sleeping, choking when sleeping or eating. She has been to 4 specialist trying to figure out what was wrong resulting in being misdiagnosed with COPD, Lyme disease, Arthritis, Lupus and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
On May 7th, 2018 she had a Pre OP appointment to have surgery on a deviated septum and pinched sinus cavity (since breathing was a problem now). At this appointment the ENT found a large tumor in her throat the size of a golf ball, from this point everything has been moving super fast. She was sent straight to Smillow Hospital to meet with an ENT Oncology Surgeon who was surprised she was able to speak because her airway was almost completely closed. She was quickly scheduled for a surgical biopsy. After going in for the biopsy (she had to be awake since they could not intubate her) the surgeon decided to remove a large portion of the tumor (80%) instead of just the biopsy.
Fast forward to Monday May 21st, my sister who has spent every day at Smillow was just informed that the tumor is in fact CHONDROSARCOMA Cancer. Its a very rare cancer that lives in the cartriledge of her neck. As of today they only have 100 cases worldwide. She is scheduled for her second surgery on May 31st as they are removing the cancer in sections since there is no protocol for this cancer.
My sister still has not been back to work and has no idea when she will be back working. As a single mom that is a ton of stress. The last thing she needs right now is to be stressed over bills and taking care of Gabriella. We need her to focus on healing and winning this fight! All I'm asking is for a donation in any amount to help her on this journey to BEAT THIS CANCER!
