Help Jess Recover from Knee Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jess and I’m fundraising for knee surgery recovery. On February 3rd I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus at a snowboard event that I volunteered to help work on. Since then, I’ve been trying to stack hours and calculate in my head how I can A.) afford surgery and extensive physical therapy (even with health insurance the bills will be daunting) and B.) afford to take the time off required to allow the knee to heal post-op. I’ve been through this before, so I know what lays ahead.

I work a physically demanding, manual labor job as the Terrain Park & Bike Park Supervisor for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Post-operation, I’ll be non-weight bearing and in a straight leg brace for 6 weeks. This makes it impossible to perform my normal duties during that time period and it’s quite challenging to clock enough office hours to be able to pay bills (rent, utilities, phone payment, car and health insurance, student loans, credit card bills, etc.). Inconveniently, the mountain will also seasonally close down during the “off season” so other light duty work at my company will be hard to come by, and still won’t offer enough hours to match my usual paychecks.
I’ve been through this exact reconstruction 4 years ago, but last time I injured my other knee while clocked in, performing my job. Worker’s compensation removed the stress of not only medical bills, but helped tremendously with the cost of living with no income for 6+ weeks.
The cost of medical procedures can add insult to injury. Even with my company’s health insurance, pre-deductible and out-of-pocket costs quickly add up. When you add these expenses to lost wages during recovery, the total medical bill can be overwhelming.
I thank you for reading my story and considering donating. Every dollar counts, and this $5,000 goal would allow me to pay rent for the months of April and May, along with staying relatively up to date on my other bills. Anything extra will go towards medical fees that I anticipate organizing payment plans for. I’ll chip away at those for life, but securing my home as a safe place to recover would provide the peace of mind to go into surgery knowing everything is going to be okay and I will be back doing what I love before I know it.
Thank you!
Go fast, take chances.
Best,
Jess
