Jess Pinkerton, age 46 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday, October 27, 2024 following a tragic motorcycle accident near Spearfish.

Jess Herold Dean Pinkerton was born September 5, 1978 in Bozeman, Montana. He was the son of David Lyle and Jackie (Short) Pinkerton. Jess graduated from high school in Elko, Nevada. Shortly after, he moved to Whitewood SD, where he met Joni Johnson. They were united in marriage in Belle Fourche on December 29, 2001. To this union four children were born: Mackenzie, Jess Jr., Serenity, and Jackson. Following their marriage, Jess and Joni settled in Belle Fourche. They later divorced. Jess worked at several places, and the had many different types of jobs. His favorite was working as an underground miner in Wyoming. Jess was a thrill seeker in life, and conducting underground explosions was a good match for his personality. His nickname was “C-4)”.
Jess was a retired volunteer for the Belle Fourche Fire Department. Jess had a heart for people, and would often help others in different ways. He was an extrovert, and the life of the party kind of man. He loved to visit with people, and he had a great laugh. Jess loved his motorcycles, his dogs, and he especially loved his children. He will be greatly missed.
Jess is survived by Joni and the four children, Mackenzie of Denver CO, Jess Jr. of Belle Fourche, Serenity of Belle Fourche, Jackson of Belle Fourche; 3 brothers, Ernie (Kim) Pinkerton of Butte MT, Brian Pinkerton of CA, Allen Pinkerton of Big Timber MT; and sister, Lori Pinkerton of NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Hartzel.
