Help Jessica Norton at age 22 fight Breast Cancer!
Hi, I am Diane Norton. I'm Jessica's mom. Jessica is just 22 years old and just graduated college at UCSB on 6/12/2021. On 6/21/21 she came home for her breast ultrasound for a large lump she had found. It was immediately followed by mammogram. With unwanted findings the mammogram was followed by biopsies of breast and involved lymph nodes that same night. By Wednesday the 23rd we were devastated to find out Jessica had cancer and it had spread to her Lymph nodes. We had her first visit with her oncologist on Thursday the 24th. We are still without all the answers and this week is full with PET Cat Scan, MRI of breasts , Echocardiogram to be ready for a Port IV catheter to be placed now scheduled for next Wednesday July 7th. This week also on 6/30 has surgery consult. On 7/1 Jessica will meet with plastic surgeon and that same day has a fertility consult to hopefully harvest eggs if there is time before chemotherapy starts.
Jessica had her new life just beginning in Santa Barbara. She had just moved from her college apartment in Isla Vista to a room in a house with her best friend. In Santa Barbara the rooms are expensive. She is in a lease and was in the middle of getting a new job.. three interviews down and a panel interview to go so she could pay rent and live in Santa Barbara. I'm hoping with help she will be able to keep her room so when she is past chemo and surgeries she can get back to living life post college graduation! She also will be having to pay back her portion of her college loans( 30,000 ish) I will do everything I can to help. I am a nurse in the NICU and I have two jobs but I'll be taking time off to care for Jessica. I'm praying that with all our friends and strangers prayers, best wishes and support we will knock this cancer out of the ball park and get Jessica back to her life as a 22 year old! Thank you everyone and I will be updating her progress and will also be bringing breast cancer awareness to light for the young girls out there! When you find a lump and your doctor tells you it's just hormones and doesn't do anything please tell another doctor! (This is what happened to Jessica )Go to a specialist. Tell your family. Please In the name of God, fight for yourself! Thank you for considering your support and even if it's in advice, prayers , thoughts, watching out for yourself and family members and fighting for the breast cancer awareness causes it's all very much appreciated ❤️
I know this is the beginning only but I want her to be able to try cold caps to prevent damage to hair follicles as much as possible. Many things are out there I think to help but not all of it will be covered with insurance. Again from my broken heart that I must make so strong ... thank you!!
Sincerely , from the bottom of our hearts!
Diane, Chip and Jessica and my entire family
Updated often... within a week of diagnosis or so we found out she had 20 plus lesions in her Liver. Jess could not keep her room in Santa Barbara. She lives at home and visits her boyfriend in Santa Barbara as often as possible. She did not use cooling caps but is looking into hair extensions when her hair grows back at least an inch! She is hanging in there and receiving all of her care at the wonderful City of Hope! If I was younger I might choose to work here. It's a place that has a big heart and lots of Hope!
