She was visiting the U.S. under the ESTA Visa Waiver Program, a standard process for many foreign nationals traveling to the U.S. for short visits.

Despite her compliant intent to enter the U.S. legally, Brosche’s journey took a shocking turn when authorities flagged "problems with her visa." She was informed her detention would last "a couple of days." However, what followed was an alarming sequence of events: after being denied entry, Brosche was placed in solitary confinement for nine days. Solitary confinement, widely condemned as a form of psychological torture, is widely considered inhumane under international human rights standards.

Brosche is now being held at the Otay Mesa Detention Center, a notorious, for-profit private prison that has been linked to multiple reports of abuse. According to the ACLU, these private facilities often operate with minimal oversight, exacerbating the plight of detainees. Tragically, due to a significant judicial backlog, no case file has been created for her, leaving her without legal representation or an advocate for her release.
