When you think things can’t get worse and then they do...
I have set this page up for my niece Jessie Becker with the hope that friends and family will make contributions. I asked Jessie to write a bit about what she is going through.
Here it is...
My name is Jessie Becker and I lay here on my air mattress in my living room with barely any feeling on my right side. The pain went from constant excruciating, burning pain to numbness and weakness. Within a week I have to have back surgery that I can not afford or I will have permanent loss of function at 35 years old.
MY MEDICAL INSURANCE COMPANY LET ME DOWN
At the beginning of the year I got dropped by my health insurance company over an application error. I selected electronic pay and didn't see the check box for reoccurring payment. I assumed the electronic pay option would be reoccurring monthly. I get it now, it’s an easy user error and an honest mistake. I’m sure they’ve had this problem before and worked with clients. I checked the very first month and saw that the payment was withdrawn from my bank so I though I was all set up for monthly withdrawals from my bank. Two months later I received a letter saying my health coverage had been terminated. They refused to reinstate me even if I were to pay the balance immediately. I'm sure it was because of the health risks that America was beginning to face with the pandemic. They didn’t see me as a person but dollars they could lose so they didn’t even attempt to work with me. I’ve always been healthy active and with no pre-existing conditions so no reason they shouldn’t have reinstated me.
THE NEXT BLOW
This past Thursday, Chloe my Shih Tzu, had a seizure on my kitchen floor. I picked her up and ran out the door hoping to reach help as she died in my arms. Feeling her life just leave her body was so traumatizing. I was devastated.

AND MORE BAD NEWS
And just when it seemed things couldn't get any worse. 2 days after Chloe died something happened to my back. I could not move because the pain was so bad and I lay on the floor in agony. Eventually the pain turned to numbness and tingling in my leg. I developed weakness, drop foot and a feeling that the circulation in my leg was not good. I hoped it would pass but it kept getting worst. I fell out of bed one night and moved to sleeping on an air mattress on the floor. I knew I needed and MRI and was finally able to get one with the help of friends. The orthopedic surgeon told me yesterday that I need back surgery to repair 2 discs. They won't know the extent of it until they get inside and the surgery can not wait or I will have permanent damage. I know I can not afford the hospital bills but I must have the surgery. My Aunt Amy said let's set up a go fund me page. You have lots of friends and family and if everyone chips in we can do this. TEAM WORK!!!
CAN'T GET A BREAK
The craziness is now the soonest available date for surgery is on the date that my younger brother Sean died... I seriously just couldn’t believe it.

For anyone with a child you understand that no matter how old they are they are always your baby. Most retired people understand what is like to depend on Social Security. I will do every thing possible for Jessie and hope to get some help.

These are challenging times to say the least. Then add to that an unexpected health issue. Your support of any size contribution will help my niece Jessie. And if anyone knows how to get insurance reinstated-please do share!
