Help Jim, Adiya & new baby boy rebuild their home
Donation protected
On August 7th 2020 my brother Jim and his wonderful wife Adiya welcomed their firstborn child James into the world. A successful all-natural home birth with no drugs or interventions!
12 days later their home was destroyed in the Santa Cruz firestorm.
There were no evactuation warnings for their area of Boulder Creek and they were unaware of the danger until the Sheriff's arrived in their driveway with red and blue lights and sirens blaring ordering them to ''leave now ''.
They left with Baby James' diapers and clothes, a few important documents and the clothes on their backs.
Adiya and Jim loved the mountains and especially the Boulder Creek community which embraced them. They planned on living out their remaining years there. With Adiya being 39 and Jim 45 years of age they are definitely late bloomers but they have a genuine excitement to live and raise their child and hopefully children in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains amongst the towering Redwoods.
Now displaced and living in a hotel, they made a decision to stay and rebuild the home in the community they cherish.
But how? The insurance company will only cover $193 per square foot of the rebuilding cost and the first two contractors put initial bids in the range of 350 to $400 per square foot which was quite shocking and dismaying. The possibly of not being able to rebuild seemed to be a looming reality.
But he has now found a general contractor who bid at $265 a square foot. We believe through hard work and support from friends and community they can make up for the $141,000 shortfall.
That is where we all come in. Though they have some savings, it is still not enough. Like many mountain folk, they are independent minded and don't like to ask for help. As Jim often reminds those around him, "There are no such thing as problems, only situations."
So the campaign begins! Because childhood is fleeting and every child deserves a perfect start. We aim to raise what we can to help kick off the rebuild and get baby James back home by his 1st birthday!
Though the task seems daunting they move forward with positivity and determination. Will you help this fledgling family spread its wings and see their dreams come true? Please donate today.
