Help Joe Korbee

You never think you'll be the one writing something like this...
We need your help.
On February 1st, Joe Korbee was in a very tragic accident.
Joe was helping his girlfriend Carolina move back to her hometown of Houston, Texas. As she was driving east past Santa Fe, their car was hit by a semi-truck. It took over an hour to pull Joe from the wreckage. Despite valiant rescue efforts from the EMT's and Fire Department, Carolina did not survive. Our hearts are forever broken over the loss of this sweet woman. She was a very bright light in Joe's life.

Joe miraculously survived and was airlifted to UNM Hospital. He suffered multiple devastating injuries, collapsed lung, brain bleeds, severe facial fractures, multiple compound fractures in both arms, cardiac injuries, cervical and thoracic injuries, chest wounds and severe scalp lacerations. He was intubated and on a ventilator, and placed in a medically induced coma for the initial week. His survival is an absolute miracle.

Since the accident he has undergone multiple lifesaving surgeries, blood transfusions, some reconstruction and a tracheostomy. He is still needing more procedures, and is still on a ventilator with a trach collar. Very soon he will need a specialized medical air flight to the next facility that can help him recover. From there he will have a very long road. We don't know if he will ever be able to play guitar, sing, dance, hike, play with his niece or have an independent life. The answers to these terrifying questions will reveal themselves over time and we are focused on finding the best care and therapies that will help Joe get back to doing the things he once loved. As many of you know, Joe was a great singer, songwriter, artist and a kind, sweet soul. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He always volunteered to be of service to anyone in need and believed deeply in the power of energy, love and spiritual healing.

Our family has been in Albuquerque since the day of this tragedy and will continue to be so that we can be near him and help support his recovery.

His needs are great right now. Our family's resources are limited.
Contributions will be used for Joe's many supplemental needs.

Please, please help us by contributing to the Joe Korbee Special Needs Fund.
