HELP JOE MORRISON'S FAMILY

Sunday, September 20, was the saddest day of my life, and will changed our lives forever. On that day it was discovered that my brother Joe, aged 58, had a large malignant tumour on the left side of his brain.
The team at Foothills Hospital team operated early Sunday morning. The prognosis was not good. After the surgery, they cautioned us that he may never speak again, and he would be paralyzed on his left side. He was in an induced coma for two days.
Joe is an entrepreneur, always seeking out the next big thing. He owned a successful printing company for many years, pivoted into digital technology, and then pivoted again to resort development and offshore account management in Belize and Costa Rica.
For the past five years, he has been working on a patented green technology which cleanly burns waste and converts it to electricity. Key markets for this new technology were China and Saudi Arabia. With both countries in trade disputes with Canada the projects have stalled.
The family has invested their life savings trying to make these projects a success. They have no medical coverage or long term disability plan.
Their youngest daughter, Fiona who is 9, was in the Children’s hospital with her own health issues. Little Fiona has suffered seizures all her life, which have meant that the family can rarely leave her and unfortunately, the seizures have severely impacted her mental capacity.
While a special ketogenic diet (high in fat) has stabilized the seizures for the past 7 years, they unexpectedly returned a couple days prior to Joe’s diagnosis and Joe and his wife, Merric, were taking turns staying at the Children’s hospital with Fiona as the doctors determined how to control the seizures.
On September 24th, my brother woke up from the surgery and could talk (although mumbled) and literally stood up and walked. It was truly a miracle for all of us. This is just the beginning of the path forward for the family. They are waiting for an MRI and new test results to identify if the tumor has been completely removed.
Our family is contributing to the financial position of the family, as the tumor impacted his judgement and decision making, and many expenses were neglected prior to the diagnosis. His wife is scared. She cannot work full time, because Fiona requires full time care and there is concern that the seizure could return.
Joe will be on a treatment for chemo and radiation, and unable to work as in addition to treatments, he will need to have speech therapy and physio to regain full physical mobility.
I want to start this Go Fund Me account to help raise $ 30,000 to help pay rent, food, utilities, medications and for medical services during this difficult time.
Please consider this worthwhile cause to give Joe, Merric, Mayla and Fiona a hand up and not a hand-out.
I thank you for you for your consideration of this worthwhile cause.
Please forward to your circle of friends
Sincerely
Scott Morrison
Remember: " It takes a village."
November 5 Update- Joe has been home for 2 weeks now and Merric and the girls are very happy to have him back. He can talk and get up and about. He has trouble with numbers and told Wendy, our sister, the rent was
$ 1.5 million instead of $ 1,500.00 per month.
Joe began chemo and radiation treatment on October 29 and will continue for the next five weeks. He is feeling pretty good everything.
