Help Joe Spano Cross the Finish Line!

As many of you know, on July 20, 2021, everyone's favorite, Joe Spano, suffered a life-threatening stroke after returning from an evening run that left his entire left side paralyzed. It is a blessing that he survived and an even bigger blessing that he continues to get better every day. Thanks to the amazing care that Joe has received at the ICU and CCU at Hackensack University Medical Center and at Kessler and JDT rehabilitation facilities, he has already begun to walk with assistance after just 3 months - but he still has a long road ahead of him.

Joe, who in the past has completed three full marathons and countless half marathons, is now facing a different kind of race. The first year of stroke recovery is the most crucial and is when most of the healing takes place. Joe’s progress has been described by his doctor as “leaps and bounds” and he continues to impress his therapists with his dedication to healing and getting his left side moving again.

Unfortunately, Joe's journey to healing has been costly for the Spano family and will continue to be.

Your generous contribution will help with:
·      Countless medical bills for his time in the ICU, CCU and two rehabilitation facilities, including doctor visits, transportation to appointments and testing
·      Wearable devices that Joe needs going forward to help stimulate muscle movement from within to remind his body how to move
·      At-home accommodations needed to make the house accessible for his current needs
·      A home health aide to assist him with his daily living to keep him safe, which is not covered by insurance and needs to be funded completely out-of-pocket

The hope is that within a year he will regain full movement and independence, but for now, he needs our help to get there. We are hoping to raise enough to help get Joe back on his feet over the next year.
