Help Joe with funeral expenses

This is to help Joe DePalma-Hinojosa cover the costs of funeral expenses for Andrew Hinojosa-DePalma, his partner of 26 years, who passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14th, 2021. 

 

My name is Allen. I've been living with Joe and his husband Andrew for a few years now. Andrew's passing was difficult for all of us, but Joe took it the hardest. I'm making this in the hopes of easing some of the burden he's carrying. I have spoken with Joe and obtained his permission to share the details here.

 

In addition to the emotional upheaval at the sudden loss of a loved one there has been substantial financial strain. Death is an expensive business. The funeral had been mostly paid for through a plan Joe and Andrew signed up for years ago, but there were still some out of pocket expenses. Those total around $3,000 for paying off the remainder of the plan, purchasing the burial plot, opening and closing the grave, and placing a headstone. Those are the main expenses I'm hoping to help cover with this fundraiser, but it's not the end of the financial challenges Joe is facing at this time.

 

Joe and Andrew had been planning to move, to reduce costs and in the long-term have their own home. Without Andrew's income, the plans they had made have collapsed, but Joe will still have to move because he can no longer afford the rent at the house we've been living in up to now. He is also disabled and recently received treatment for cancer. If we reach the goal of this fundraiser, any excess funds will go towards helping with the expenses of moving and any medical care that isn't covered by insurance.

 

Joe doesn't like asking for money, but he's okay with this on the condition that if you give, you give only what you can spare. If you know Joe, if you knew Andrew, or if you see this campaign online and just want to help out, any amount is greatly appreciated. If you're unable to spare anything, another way you can help a lot is by sharing this fundraiser with anyone you know who might be in a position to donate.
