Help Joeanne Save African Animals!
Donation protected
Hi my name is Joeanne Katsikaros and I am a Veterinary Surgeon in Kembla Grange, NSW.
Going to Africa has long been a dream of mine, but to go and actively do something that benefits the wonderful creatures that live there is a huge bonus.
We all watch the glossy TV shows and are awed by the majestic lions, moved by the devoted elephant families and amazed by the stunning landscapes depicted. However, the darker, more tragic side of poaching, habitat destruction and the damage humans directly and indirectly wrought on the environment is less apparent.
In May this year I will be travelling to Zululand, South Africa to volunteer with Wildlife ACT, a wonderful group of conservationists dedicated to promoting and advancing the conservation of endangered and threatened species in several reserves through Africa. Mainly working with African Wild Dogs, Black Rhino, Cheetah and Vultures, they also monitor Lion, Elephant, Leopard and Hyena.
Wildlife ACT work focuses on the provision of expertise to ensure adequate management, capture, transport and, where necessary, reintroduction of animals to new areas. They also determine the best monitoring equipment for individual reserves, implement anti -poaching measures, and help educate rural communities to enable them to coexist peacefully with the protected wildlife areas surrounding them.
And they do all this free of charge. How amazing is that!! To fund this work Wildlife ACT runs a wildlife volunteer program and that's where I happily jump in! :)
In order, to help them as much as I can I am trying to raise funds to help purchase necessary equipment . Funds being easier to transport than fitting GPS units, radio collars, binoculars, Telemetry equipment, spotlights etc in my luggage!
My goal is to try and raise at least $2000 and anything over would be simply wonderful.
I have just over three months to raise this amount and I would be deeply grateful of any donation, however small.. or large!
I have long wanted to work in Africa and it is actually why I became a vet in the first place. Since that has not been my luck in life at least I can partly fulfill a cherished dream by helping do my bit in other ways. Your help would mean the world to me.
Our planet is a unique and amazing place, the environment and wildlife within is irreplaceable. Let's all work together to help preserve it for many generations to come.
