URGENT John Chen Shi NEEDS a new Wheelchair
Donation protected
John has his new wheelchair!
Thanks to your generous donations and John’s skilful work in a drone competition the final payment was made and John is overjoyed to have his new wheels!
As of June 10, 2021 John no longer has a well functioning wheelchair!
Please consider donating as much or as little as you can so we can join with John as he seeks to live and access his community.
John Chen Shi was born in 1984 with Spina Bifida and requires a wheelchair to get around. He is the life and soul of any party!
John lived most of his life in an orphanage in Changsha, Hunan Province, Peoples Republic of China. After receiving basic care from the orphanage, plus much love and support from international volunteers with International China Concern, John grew and flourished.
We are looking to purchase a Quickie Xenon 2 FF in Red (John's choice of colour).
John's current wheelchair is about 10 years old, his Jay cushion is over 11 years old and in desperate need of replacement. John will be contributing towards getting his new wheelchair and the accessories to go with it because he doesn't want it to just be something that is given to him, he will be buying it along with all of his friends old and new that choose to support him.
It is hoped we can raise enough to get him a replacement Jay cushion and a Roho cushion (with 2 covers).
If we can raise enough money it would be awesome to be able to get some Quickie WheelDrive - power assisted wheels to help John as he moves around the city.
At this present time I, Clare, will be sourcing quotes and making sure the chair can be shipped to John in China - If borders had been open I would have loved to deliver it personally, but being in Australia this is not a current option.
Who is John Chen Shi:
John studied at Changsha Mingzhen Xueyuan and obtained a qualification in Computer 3D Animation. When John graduated in 2010 he moved from his group home to Shenzhen to work in 3D Animation. John worked there for 2 years before getting a job with another company doing Exhibition Setup Design.
A year later he got a different job working in Graphic Design.
Around 2014 John decided to take up the Ukulele and partnered with a couple running a Stationery shop and teaching Ukulele. This was something John enjoyed greatly and continued with this for 6 years. As much as he enjoyed this the partnership was not working out so John returned to Graphic Design to ensure he had enough money coming in to support him.
COVID-19 has brought many challenges for John as he had begun doing Freelance Graphic Design work and Freelance Photography, but there has been little demand through 2020 so he has been working month to month.
Since John moved to Shenzhen he has made many friends and enjoys going out and about socialising, when he's not working. He is single and has two beautiful cats and is still waiting to meet the love of his life. John's hopes and plans for the future include travelling outside of China to Australia and other countries to explore their cultures and maybe on the way find a wife :)
On behalf of John, Thank you so much for considering supporting him in the purchase of his new wheelchair and we look forward to sharing more photos with you as things progress.
