Help get John's sailboat back in the water
Donation protected
I met John last year while sailing in the Florida Keys. I was amazed and inspired by his story.
Three years ago John Grim of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma set out to pursue his dream: to travel the country while living on board a sailboat. He sold everything he had, gathered his savings and bought a 1994 Beneteau called Mystic Wind. After learning to sail in Oklahoma’s Grand Lake, John and Mystic Wind set out on their adventure. He left Muskogee, headed down the Arkansas River to the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers, followed by the Gulf of Mexico to Louisiana, Texas and the Florida Keys.
12,000 miles later, after spending hurricane season in New England John was heading back south. During a stay over in Lewes, DE – one of the few times he didn't stay on board – the weather quickly turned into extremely rough conditions overnight and disaster struck. A shackle on the anchor chain broke, and Mystic Wind was blown ashore through the surf. She ended up hard aground on Lewes Beach.
The boat is now dry docked in Lewes. Recovering Mystic Wind and the associated repairs will cost upward of $15,000. It's a devastating blow financially and has made it all but impossible for John to continue this journey. Anyone who knows John knows he helps everyone – yet would never ask anyone for anything. So I’ve set up this fundraiser for him with the hope he'll be able to once again get Mystic Wind back in the water - and keep the dream alive. If anyone feels they can help out, any amount is welcome, no matter how small. Thank you very much.
