HELP JOHN LEE BUY HIS FIRST BASS!!
Greetings to all who reads this!
My name is John Lee, a 23 year old jazz musician and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. While I was in school studying drums, I fell in love with the double bass. It wasn't long after I moved to Boston in 2010 that I was picking up a bass at any chance I could get - trying to pluck away a simple blues when the in-house bassist was out for a smoke or bathroom break. My interests in the instrument continued throughout my time at Berklee (I borrowed a LOT of basses) and by the time I left school, it had blossomed into such a level that I found myself being able to truly express myself within it. I was starting to get hired on bass and was getting a chance to perform with some very incredible musicians. In present day - the bass has become my life and livelihood. Now you can find me playing bass as a side man for musicians like George Colligan (Jack DeJohnette, Buster Williams) and Misha Piatigorsky (Ari Hoenig) or leading my own group "In The Spirit of Ray Brown". Somehow throughout all of these experiences, I've made it through without ever owning a double bass to call my own. Finding ways to practice was always a challenge but there were people to help me along the way and I am grateful.
Now I am asking for your help for me to finally buy my own steed!
All of the money raised through this fundraiser will go directly into purchasing a wonderful double bass. I will be consulting some of my most trusted double bass experts and go on a search to finally find a dear old friend to grow old with.
My deepest gratitude to ALL bassists who have lent me their bass throughout my life. I couldn't have made any of those sessions, rehearsals and gigs without ALL of you being there. A very special shoutout to: Dave Santoro, Greg Chaplin, Marika Galea, Christian Stevenson, Nicolas Sheasgreen, Alex Kaiser-Smibert, Carmella Luvisotto and Max Gerl. If things go well, I'll never have to bother another bass player to lend me their precious ever again! ;)
