Help John Recover From Severe Brain Injury
Donation protected
If you're as fortunate as we are, you've had the pleasure of crossing paths with John Dominic Martillano. He is a loving son, a caring brother, and an amazing uncle to his beautiful niece, Kiara. John’s contagious laugh has the power to light up any room, and he is someone you’d want to spend countless hours with. John is a selfless, talented, courageous, and compassionate individual. So selfless that five years ago, he donated his kidney to our Father in need of a kidney transplant. John is one-half of House of Lano. He is my brother, my business partner and my best friend. I miss John immensely, and there’s nothing I want more than to see John create again.

On June 24th, what was supposed to be a fun Friday evening celebrating Pride, turned into an unimaginable night that would forever alter our lives. That evening, towards the end of an event, John was ready to call it a night and take an Uber home. However, his friend quickly noticed that he did not look well and was in no condition to travel home by himself. Shortly after, John had a seizure which caused his brain to be deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time. Paramedics were called to the scene and John was immediately admitted to the ER, where he suffered another seizure. Since then, John has been fighting for his life in the ICU, requiring a ventilator for him to breathe. He also developed pneumonia and has experienced extremely high fevers.
On June 29th, my family and I received the most devastating news that any family could ever be told, John is in a coma. His MRI results revealed that he suffers from hypoxic-ischemic brain damage. At this time, his prognosis is unknown and day by day is different. We have dropped everything to come together for his medical care. Our parents have shifted their lives to provide steady care for him as he remains in the ICU in critical condition.
At this time, John’s prognosis is categorized as uncertain, this type of brain injury recovery is slow and every day has its challenges. Your generous donations will immediately help with the cost of private care to give John's parents and family short breaks from his bedside. Additional rehab support such as Physio, over and above what the hospital can offer. In the near future, it is the family’s hope John’s recovery will be far enough along to include promising treatments not covered by OHIP or insurance plans, such as Neural Stem Cell Therapy along with ongoing physio, transportation appointments and other resources to support John in what we believe will be a long road of recovery.
Supporting John will give us hope for his future. Together we can ensure that whatever lies ahead, we will have the capacity to exhaust all options to provide him with everything he needs. Please do not feel any amount is too small; all donations are sincerely appreciated during this time of uncertainty.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, love, prayers and support. I will continue to update this page with any new developments.
