Help John save injured Kitten's Leg! Saved on I-278
Donation protected
I will post updates at the bottom of this as time goes on!
Hi there. My name is John and yesterday I was driving towards Brooklyn to meet with some friends as it was a Friday night. I was heading onto the Verrazano bridge when I saw this kitten in 4-5 lanes of traffic. He seems to have fell out of an engine bay and was almost killed. I stopped my car and ran out to grab him before a car hit him as cars were swerving to avoid. He was extremely scared. I wish I had a dash cam to capture it! He was crouched on the ground trying to run across!
I took him to my vet and he seemed okay as he was purring, eating, etc, but unfortunately his leg was bothering him. She Xray'd him and discovered his leg seems to have 3 breaks. One at the pelvic area, one at his ankle, and a third near his hip. She told me he would either have a very expensive orthopedic surgery or probably a cheaper surgery which would amputate his leg. I really would prefer if we don't amputate it obviously. I believe it will be past 1500, so please keep donating! This is just my guess for now!
I have a feeling most places would euthanize, and I feel that is unnecessary as he seems to be doing good otherwise.
I need some help as I'm already dealing with my GSD who has IVDD for months now, so I would use the funds to help pay for the medical costs.
An update:
Red Bank Vet Hospital estimated the following
1) ~15k for complete repair of the pelvis and leg
2) ~6k for amputation
3) ~1k for splinting and conservative rest
I opted for splinting and conservative rest due to financial reasons and due to him seeming like he's feeling okay (purring, eating, trying to play etc). Here was the estimate before anything was started.
Unfortunately when they went to start with the procedure, other ER doctors advised against the splint because it would create a fulcrum and act against the pelvis, making the healing of the pelvis worse, so the splint would be counter productive.
So instead the procedure will be getting him in a crate for 6-8 weeks, pain medicine, and more xrays to monitor how he's healing, and seeing if an amputation will be the next step if he's not healing well. So this what was spent so far
