Help Johnny get a NEW RACING WHEELCHAIR

My name is Johnny Centers. I have been confined to a wheelchair since I was 17 years old due to a motorcycle accident. The accident broke my back and paralyzed me from the waist down.

Of course I was confused about what my life would be like and what I can excel in. So after about 2 years of prayer and experiences in wheelchair basketball I was told about wheelchair racing and after trying it at Lakeshore Rehabilitation in Birmingham, AL I was ready to get a racing chair and start racing local 5k and 10k roadraces and Marathons. This sport was for me.

After a couple years of racing I decided to get my equipment upgraded and try hard to qualify for the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta GA.

This was in no doubt the biggest goal I had made for myself. I worked hard and qualified for the final trials to make the team and in all events I came up short in qualifying times. The closest was the 400 meter, in which I missed the qualifying time by .06 of a second. It was an Awesome experience just being in competition with some of the fastest racers in the United States.

After Atlanta I decided to stop racing for a year or so and that led into an unbelievable 24 years. Which is now!
I have decided that I have more miles to push and races to win and I also have my mind set on Paris, in 2024, which will be the next Paralympic Games.

This is why I am doing this fund raiser because I need a new Racing Wheelchair so I can compete with the other wheelers and not let my equipment be the reason I can’t compete like I did in 1996.

It has most definitely been a long time since I even sat in a racing wheelchair but I have the Desire, Dedication, and Determination to train hard to get back and make my goals and accomplish what I have set my mind on.  HELP ME KEEP MY WHEELS IN MOTION !!
