Just 4 months ago, Emily (32 years old) was pursuing her dream of earning a doctorate at Baylor University, however, life took an unexpected and devastating turn when Emily began experiencing vision issues and significant short-term memory loss and cognitive deficits almost overnight.
Emily's journey began with the diagnosis of an aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis. Despite undergoing three different treatments and even a brain biopsy, her condition has shown no positive response to the conventional methods of treatment. Instead, her brain lesions have persistently grown, and new ones have emerged. This relentless progression has taken a toll not only on her short-term memory and cognitive abilities but has also encroached upon her long-term memory now. Jordan and Emily find themselves in an ongoing battle against a formidable medical challenge, searching for answers and solutions to improve Emily's quality of life.
The possibility of CNS Lymphoma still looms as a potential diagnosis for Emily's condition. To gain more clarity and certainty, additional medical procedures and tests are being undertaken in a relentless pursuit of a firm and accurate diagnosis. The journey to understanding and addressing Emily's health continues with determination and hope. Up to date details are on her CaringBridge page, link above.
The lesions on Emily's brain have drastically affected her cognitive abilities, leaving her facing debilitating impairments with the need for extensive therapy and round-the-clock care. This is altering the course of Jordan and Emily's lives in a way they could never have imagined.
Due to Emily's need for full-time care and support, Jordan has made the difficult decision to take an unpaid leave of absence from his work. As Jordan and Emily face this ongoing challenge, Jordan has been diligently working to determine the kind of support he requires while caring for Emily . Emily's condition, marked by severe memory impairment, necessitates a specific approach to her care. To ensure her comfort and safety, they have limited their circle of caregivers to trusted family members and a select few close friends whom Emily knew intimately prior to her illness. This cautious approach is essential, as having anyone unfamiliar stay with her during this time can be unsettling and potentially distressing for Emily
Regrettably, Jordan and Emily face the additional challenge of not having immediate family members residing in the Dallas area to assist in overnight care and more. This geographical distance compounds their difficulties, particularly in terms of travel expenses, which have become an ongoing and formidable obstacle. These travel costs often dictate who can provide assistance during this challenging time.
The financial strain has become evident, with unpaid leave from work, medical expenses, and the travel costs associated with providing Emily the care she requires. Your generous contributions, regardless of the amount, hold the power to profoundly impact Emily's quality of life and guarantee she receives the vital medical attention she urgently requires. By extending your support, you become a beacon of hope and relief in their lives, enabling them to prioritize what matters most – Emily's health and well-being. Your kindness can make an immeasurable difference in their journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Emily and Jordan's story. Your compassion and generosity will have a lasting impact on their lives, providing them with the strength and resources to face the road ahead with hope and resilience.
